Andrew taught at Stanford for fifteen years, through the Department of Biology, the Program in Writing and Rhetoric, the Stanford Storytelling Project, Honors in the Arts and the Stanford Medical School. He served as Resident Fellow from 2013-2018, supporting more than 200 students in Stanford’s arts-themed dorm. He co-founded both The Senior Reflection, a creative capstone program in Biology, and the Stanford LifeWorks Program for Integrative Learning. In support of the whole student, he integrated meditation, creative exercises and wilderness training into many of his courses, including expeditions to Mount Shasta, Leave No Trace desert camping in Death Valley, and winter survival training with igloo building in Yosemite Valley.

INDEPENDENT WRITING INSTRUCTOR AND COACH
With more than twenty-five years of experience as a writer and teacher, Andrew offers workshops nationally and internationally, and works privately as a coach in fiction and nonfiction. With an MFA in Creative Writing and trained in co-active life coaching by CTI (Coaches Training Institute®), he has coached writers of all levels of experience.
As a writing coach, Andrew typically meets with clients once per week. He reads and responds to proposals and manuscripts in fiction and nonfiction, makes detailed suggestions, proposes relevant readings, advises clients on agents and editors, explores the merits and demerits of minor forms of punctuation, and suggests practices, some learned over decades, that may be helpful to a fellow writer.
